The 'Legends' Gallery
This is an award for exceptionally high-achieving players
Carl was awarded membership of the 'Legends' Gallery in January 2022 at the same time as he was awarded 'Person of the Year 2021'. The inclusion into the 'Legends' Gallery was as a result of all he has achieved as a player and coach during his involvement in VX. Carl has been involved in VX for many years, since the earliest days (the same as Scott, Tom and Scott) and he has achieved an immense amount in the sport. He led the Air Cadet Team the Raptors to be National Champions and then he set up the York VX Squad and led it to be the single most successful club in the history of the sport winning the regional title, national title, UK Club championships and the national knockout repeatedly. He was the V3 £nglish Open Champion and, even more impressively, was the sport's first V2 World Champion. He was a member of the first England VX squad that was runner-up in the World Cup 2007 and has been a key member of the squad that is now the World and European Champions. On top of that he has now become Head Coach of the England VX Squad.
Scott is currently the single most successful player in the history of the sport. He has won the 365 tournament every time bar once, he has won the World V2 title 4 times (he became the first player to win it three times in a row), won the V2 European Title, has been national champion several times and has been part of the England team that won the Test Match series, the European title and the World Cup. He's also a key part of the all conquering York VX Club. He is a worthy member of the 'Legends' Gallery.
It was some years before we had another member of the Legends Gallery. Tom was entered into it as he became the first player (a) to retain the V2 World Title and then (b) (after a gap) the first player to regain the title. As well as this Tom has been the only England captain since the sport started. He was the first player to be selected for England (by the first coach Craig Buttery) and he led England as captain to win a Youth World Cup, two World Cups, two European Championships and the first Test Match Series.
He has also been a national VX Title winner with two clubs (Raptors and Ripon) and led Ripon to the national title and the UK club Championships. He has won the European V2 Title, the University V2 championships and the 365 invitational trophy.
Scott was the first member of the 'Legends' Gallery. He was nominated for the Hall of Fame for his achievements on court, however the Hall of Fame is for people who have made an exceptional and outstanding contribution to the growth and development of the sport. It was therefore decided to establish the 'Legends' Gallery for outstanding players with great playing achievements. At the time Scott had twice been a member of the Scottish World Cup winning team, had won the V2 World Cup, had won the UK Club Championships with his team the Falkirk Cannons, had won the national Scottish V2 title and (with the Cannons) had won the Scottish VX title.
